From ICOM UK:

This talk will share Miranda’s current research as part of a Clore Leadership Fellowship exploring both intergenerational learning and intergenerational dissonance within the museum and wider cultural workforce, and what models/approaches would help us productively build trust, learn, challenge and share across generations. The talk will share initial learning and invite further discussion.

It comes out of a recognition that generational divisions can impact team dynamics, and that within the culture sector, there are elements of generational ‘culture wars’ that have a direct impact on our interactions as well as what we present to the public. Some of this is about workforce norms and expectations, whether around work-life balance and boundaries, or being your whole self at work. Other aspects are about how difficult or controversial topics are addressed, or how we interact when we find our workplaces divided by different attitudes. Miranda’s enquiry also comes from a more positive place, considering the hugely beneficial experiences to be gained from workplace interactions across generations, and the importance of learning from what we inherit rather than always re-inventing the wheel / starting from scratch.
